Games to Play on a Netbook - Part 1

If you're one of those who have a netbook then this is definitely something you should read. You probably bought the netbook for working on the move, an occasional movie and some music to keep you company. But you can't hide the fact that sometimes when you're really bored you wish you could enjoy a nice first person shooter on the netbook, which sadly isn't possible. However, this is only true if you're trying to run some of the recent games on it. But what about some of the older classics like Half-Life, Diablo II and Quake III: Arena? Believe it or not these games will actually run pretty well on the latest netbooks, and if you happen to own one with an ION, it's even better.

You'll need at least an Atom N270 with 1GB RAM for these games to work, which most netbooks do have. In case you have one of the earlier models with the lower resolution screen then you may have some trouble running these games.

World of Goo

 

One of the best indie games of last year, World of Goo runs easily on a netbook and is a lot of fun to play. The game is built around the idea of creating large structures using balls of goo. Each level has its own graphic and musical theme, giving it unique atmosphere. There is also a bonus meta-game called World of Goo Corporation, where the objective is to build the highest tower using goo balls that the player collects through the course of the game. With a strong emphasis on physics the game gets really challenging as you progress, so your brains get a good workout as well.

Diablo II

One of the most popular games of 2000, Diablo II is a fantasy themed role-playing game with elements taken from hack and slash genres. You assume the role of a hero from one of five different classes and fight monsters through dungeons and forests in order to level up your character. A good pastime if you're into strategy games.   

TrackMania Nations Forever

If you're not into puzzles or strategy games then TrackMania should satisfy your racing needs. This is an arcade style racing game that lets you make your own custom tracks and then race on them. There are many versions of TrackMania till date but this one released in 2007 has network compatibility added to it along with the older physics system.
